We’ve already seen that Blake Griffin can play more than just basketball; the pro athlete is also a pretty funny spokesman for the Kia Optima. Griffin has made us laugh with his commercials that show him time traveling into the past to give younger versions of himself helpful tips — the two videos below, in which we revisit 2002 and 2006, are the last of the series.
The first video shows Griffin boasting the Optima’s safety features to a teenage Griffin who doesn’t quite understand the concept. The basketball player awkwardly pours a pool of sunblock into his teenage self’s hands, hinting that he’s going to need a lot because the future is going to be “very bright.” In the second video, Griffin shows off his racing gloves he uses to play with the Optima Turbo’s paddle shifters. Although the earlier commercials showed kids that could pass for Griffin, the newest ones use computer magic to make Griffin look younger, and it’s quite funny.
Kia’s stylish midsize sedan has become its best seller, with 152,399 units sold in 2012. The range-topping SX-Limited trim may give Kia a small sales boost this year, for those who aren’t interested in the more conservatively styled 2014 Cadenza. With the Sorento refreshed for the 2014 model year, though, the crossover may steal the Optima’s thunder back – the Sorento was the Kia sales king in 2011.
