The initial driving footage of the 2013 Audi RS4 Avant left much to be desired – besides the red paint job and a few blips of exhaust note, there was little to get excited about. Now, Audi has re-cut the clip, set it to a techno beat, and infused some engine noise in an attempt to get pulses racing. Our verdict? It works.
The new video shows the RS4 Avant traversing twisting mountain roads along with close-ups of detailing like the car’s LED lights, 19-inch wheels, and 14.4-inch brake rotors. Best of all, we get plenty of aural teasing with the sonorous exhaust note from the 4.2-liter V-8. That engine is paired to a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox and pumps out an impressive 450 hp and 317 lb-ft of torque. True to the Audi brand, power goes to all four wheels through the automaker’s Quattro all-wheel drive with a special torque-vectoring rear differential. 0-62 mph runs occur in less than five seconds, and the car can reach a top speed of 174 mph. Oh, and it has the same 50.5-cubic-foot cargo area (with the seats) folded as your run-of-the-mill A4 Avant.
Separating the RS4 from lesser Avant models is the addition of a honeycomb grille, oval exhaust outlets, a flat-bottomed steering wheel, chrome-trimmed rear diffuser, and a revise lower front fascia complete with gaping air intakes. The 2013 RS4 Avant also sits 0.8 inches lower thanks to a firmer, adjustable suspension.
This isn’t the first time Audi has spliced together footage of its cars with a techno beat and slick editing – just last winter the revised 2013 A5 received the same treatment. However, the 2013 RS5 had to make due with rock music in the desert to complement its V-8 roar.
