Feature Flick: Audi Massages Aluminum into Engineering in Creative Video

Taking artistic license courtesy of CGI video editing techniques, Audi has debuted its “Manipulation” video on YouTube highlighting the extensive use of aluminum in the company’s new A6 model.

The video starts off  with a man picking up a chunk of billet aluminum, and stretching and molding it with his bare hands. Obviously, the video is not a literal documentation of how the A6’s chassis is formed. But it is a unique, eye-catching way of educating the public on an aspect of automotive engineering that would otherwise be hidden from most people’s awareness.

However, some other recent ads have been mis-perceived by some people who took them too literally. One notable example is BMW’s “Changes” Super Bowl ad demonstrating the cleanliness and power of its new 335d diesel. Many people interpreted the ad as showing that diesels were slow and polluting, totally missing the point of the vastly improved diesel technology and performance.
