Five-year reunions are tough venues: you need to seem down to earth, appear successful and stylish, and not drink too heavily. 2012 marks five years of the Audi R8, and Audi has released a video reminding us that its supercar succeeds in all three areas.
The Audi R8‘s effect on the automotive scene is undeniable: its LED running lights have been emulated everywhere, including the entire Audi lineup along with numerous models from Kia and Lexus, to name a few. Over the last few years, the R8 spawned a series of coupes and convertibles, powered by both the 4.2-liter V-8 and a larger, 5.2-liter V-10. There’s even an all-electric version, dubbed the R8 e-tron, a hardcore R8 GT model, and even an R8 LMS race car.
With the R8’s five-year reunion looming, it looks like the car’s having some work done: a quick flash during the video suggests the car’s headlights will be updated to look a bit more like the setup on the A8 premium sedan. Facelift or no, we think the R8 has aged very well, and look forward to see what’s in store for this car.
