There’s no doubt the 2014 Aston Martin Vanquish looks good, but does its attractive appearance match its performance? In this week’s episode of Ignition, host Carlos Lago puts the One-77-inspired DB9 replacement to the test to discover whether it it’s more than just a pretty face.
Thanks to a sweet-sounding 5.9-liter V-12, the Vanquish dishes out 565 hp and 457 lb-ft of torque. With launch control activated, the Vanquish experiences just a little bit of wheel spin off the line, sprinting from 0-60 mph in 4.0 seconds, and completing the quarter mile in 12.3 seconds at 116.2 mph. But before you activate launch control, Lago suggests you push another button labeled with the letter “S.” It doesn’t make the Aston go faster, but it helps the car sound incredible.
While the heavy Vanquish showed more understeer than Lago expected on the figure-eight course, he gave it a second chance on the road. Despite its heft and limited outward visibility, the Vanquish entertained Lago, who praised it for being a good driver’s car, taking a liking to its steering and road feel. Don’t be fooled, though; although the car’s bright orange paint and loads of carbon fiber suggest it’s a sports car, Lago says it wouldn’t embarrass a Porsche 911.
