Feature Flick: 2014 Subaru Forester Goes on Safari for Epic Drives

In the lastest episode of Epic Drives, host Arthur St. Antoine gets behind the wheel of a 2014 Subaru Forester XT for an African safari. In addition to his search for wildlife, St. Antoine tests the Forester’s mettle off-road over terrain usually reserved for larger, more purpose-built SUVs.

Before immersing himself in the wildlife, St. Antoine starts his drive in the South African neighborhood of Soweto, located within the city limits of Johannesburg. There, a tour guide provides a brief history on Apartheid and a few important bits of advice for embarking on the safari.

After hopping into the Forester to search for lions, elephants, and rhinos, St. Antoine points out a number of the Subaru’s safari-worthy features, including its best-in-class ground clearance of 8.7 inches and its strong 2.0-liter turbocharged boxer-four that produces 250 hp. The 2014 Forester had no issues crossing rivers, tackling deep sand, or climbing up rocky inclines. St. Antoine even had fun on a twisty road thanks to the Forester’s car-like handling, one attribute that sets the Subaru apart from a Land Rover and a Land Cruiser. Does the Forester help St. Antoine successfully find all the wildlife on his wish list? Watch the latest Epic Drives episode below to find out.
