One of the most important changes for the 2014 Porsche Panamera is that S and 4S models ditch their V-8 engines for a twin-turbocharged V-6. The new engine is more fuel efficient and also produces 20 hp more than the V-8 it replaces. Motor Trend‘s Carlos Lago put the new engine to the test in the latest episode of Ignition.
At the test track, the 2014 Porsche Panamera 4S hits 60 mph in 4.4 seconds and records a 13.0-second quarter-mile at 105 mph.Lago is also impressed by how quickly the optional carbon-ceramic brakes bring the heavy four-door car to a stop, and with how ably the all-wheel-drive Panamera laps the figure-eight course.
“You wouldn’t take a Panamera to a race track,” Lagos admits, “But you could, and that’s the cool thing about the Panamera. So long as you never look behind you, you could think you were in a 911.”
The 2014 Porsche Panamera 4S starts at $99,295, including a $995 destination charge. Its 3.0-liter twin-turbo V-6 produces 420 hp and 384 lb-ft of torque. A seven-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission and all-wheel drive are standard.
