Feature Flick: 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT Is a No-Compromise Machine

Flogging the performance SUV off-road and on the track.

The 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT is a vehicle that tries to do it all. It’s a Jeep—a name that brings with it a reputation for off-road ability—but it’s also the high-performance SRT version, meaning that it’s hugely powerful and tuned for the track. In this episode of World’s Fastest Car Show, host Justin Bell puts this SUV’s do-it-all nature to the test as he takes it out on a variety of challenging terrain.

First up is a quick foray into the wilderness as the Jeep takes on a gravel road and even gets some air on a quick hill climb. The SRT handles the abuse admirably and jumps right into the next obstacle: a hardcore stint on the track. Bell (kitted out in his finest suit, no less) takes the SRT around the racetrack and is impressed with the Jeep’s performance around the bends despite its massive 5,150lb curb weight. The big SUV grips hard, the eight-speed automatic offers quick shifts and even throttle blips, and the big brakes slow the Jeep down in a hurry.

The 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT is equipped with a 6.4-liter Hemi V-8 putting out 470hp to all four wheels. Compared to other performance SUV rivals like the Porsche Cayenne and BMW X5 M, the Grand Cherokee SRT is a relative bargain at only $63,990 with destination.
