In case you’ve forgotten, the 2014 Chevrolet SS is the American-spec version of Australia’s new Holden Commodore. As part of a triumphant new ad for the Commodore, Holden reminds us that, “when shipped to the States, [the] new Commodore becomes our new top-of-the-line Chevrolet sedan.”
The 96-second ad regales viewers with the amount of testing and development that went into the all-new VF-generation Commodore and how it’s a sporty, luxurious, refined car set to conquer global markets. Through the drives of four people (one of which is driving the SS through the streets of New York City), the commercial highlights the Commodore’s different attributes. The initial narrator discusses the level of luxury, while the second – a test driver for Holden driving on the automaker’s test track – discusses the sedan’s sporting credentials. In case you’ve forgotten, performance variants of the Commodore use 425-, 436-, 456-, and 577-hp V-8 engines; our Chevrolet SS will use a 415-hp 6.2-liter LS3 V-8 engine and a six-speed automatic transmission. Driver number three takes advantage of the Commodore’s Siri integration for the iPhone, while the fourth driver uses the automatic parking function to slip into the perfect spot outside of a nightlife hot spot.
The commercial is clearly also made to help remind people that the Holden Commodore (and Chevrolet SS) have been designed, engineered, and produced in Australia. The flick concludes with the narrator saying that the Commodore is “the most advanced car ever created in this country.”
