This is the first of several teaser videos of the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette. This particular clip, called Conception, shows some early glimpses of the new car’s bodywork, and features a few brief comments from exterior design manager Kirk Bennion.
The teaser video shows the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette under a cover, and even when the cover is removed the car is out of focus or covered in camouflage. Yet we can hear the car’s 6.2-liter LT1 V-8 engine purr to life, and the video permits a peek at the new Corvette’s decklid spoiler and five-spoke alloy wheels.
“Performance cars are definitely all about form follows function,” Bennion says in the video. “But I would say beautiful form follows performance-driven function.”
Chevrolet says it has been carefully working on the design of the 2014 Corvette to ensure that its aerodynamic performance is optimized. That means Chevrolet is testing every single vent, inlet, and body crease in a wind tunnel or on a computer to make sure it functions as intended.
“The front grill and radiator flow paths reduce lift, improving vehicle stability at high speeds by keeping the car pressed to the pavement, ” Corvette chief engineer Tadge Juechter said in a statement. “In addition, functional vents increase track capability by channeling air to the brakes, as well as heat exchangers for the transmission and differential.”
We’ve already seen the basic design of the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette thanks to a series of spy photos and teaser videos. The new Corvette will look much like the current car, with a long and wide hood, wide rear fenders, a sharply sloping rear window, and a quartet of rectangular taillights. The sports car makes its public debut on January 13, 2013 at the Detroit auto show.
Given that the title of this video is “Trailer 1,” we can expect many other teaser videos of the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette to appear over the next two months until the car debuts.
