A new teaser video from BMW reveals that the automaker will unveil its 2 Series coupe this Friday, October 25. The brief clip shows a 2014 BMW 2 Series coupe sliding in dirt, but doesn’t reveal much about the car aside from its debut date.
The 2014 BMW 2 Series coupe and convertible will replace the 1 Series coupe and convertible later this year. The move to an even number for these models matches BMW’s decision to distinguish the 4 Series coupe and convertible from the 3 Series sedan. Leaked product information reveals that the BMW 2 Series coupe enters production in November. The U.S. market will receive both a BMW 228i and BMW M235i coupe. The former will get a 240-hp, 2.0-liter turbo-four engine with rear-wheel drive, while the hotter M235i will use a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six engine rated for more than 300 hp.
Our spy photos reveal that the 2014 BMW 2 Series will look like a scaled-down version of the all-new 4 Series coupe, with an aggressive pointed nose, stubby tail, and rounded roofline. The car’s short hood and upright windshield give it a much more compact stance than the larger BMW 4 Series. The 2014 BMW 2 Series convertible will look nearly identical, but with a power-folding fabric roof that stows behind the rear seats. Inside both versions, look for a cabin layout that closely mirrors other BMW models, with a two-binnacle instrument cluster, a wide infotainment screen atop the dashboard, and climate controls arranged horizontally.
With the car making its official debut this week and production commencing next week, expect the 2014 BMW 2 Series coupe to go on sale in the U.S. in early 2014.
