Feature Flick: 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG, GLK-Class Previewed

Mercedes-Benz has shown off two of its new cars, the 2013 SL65 AMG and the 2013 GLK-Class, with a pair of videos shot in a seemingly remote locale. The clips show the SL65 AMG blasting through winding mountain roads, while the GLK350 treks along sandy trails.

The SL65 AMG, of course, is the fastest version of the newest Mercedes-Benz roadster. Packing a twin-turbo 6.0-liter V-12, the SL65 AMG offers 621 hp and 738 lb-ft of torque. That’s enough to rocket the two-seater to 60 mph in a claimed 3.9 seconds and on to an electronically limited top speed of 186 mph. Power is routed through a seven-speed automatic transmission to the wide and sticky rear tires. The SL65 AMG makes its public debut at the New York auto show before going on sale in November. Sadly, we can’t really hear the V-12 engine roar in the video.

If you prefer dirt roads to race tracks, check out the refreshed 2013 GLK-Class. The Mercedes-Benz crossover receives a facelift, with a new front grille and fascia, as well as restyled wheels and new LED taillights. The standard 3.5-liter V-6 in the GLK350 has been upgraded — power climbs from 268 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque to 302 hp and 273 lb-ft. From 2013, there also will be a turbodiesel version in the U.S. market; the GLK250 BlueTec will use a 2.1-liter inline-four rated for 190 hp and 369 lb-ft. As with the SL65 AMG, the new 2013 GLK makes its official debut at the New York auto show before going on sale this summer.
