Just two days ago, Audi revealed its updated 2013 R8 supercar. Now, the German automaker has released a video that tantalizes not only our sense of sight, but also our sense of sound.
Audi smartly did not mess with perfection this time around, as it left the R8’s gorgeous form virtually unscathed for its 2013 update. However, it did finally do away with the clunky six-speed R-tronic single-clutch automated gearbox in favor of the slick seven-speed S-tronic dual-clutch automatic. When the new transmission is paired to either the 430-hp ,4.2-liter V-8, or a 525-hp 5.2-liter V-10, the R8 is capable of 0-to-62-mph sprints in 4.3 and 3.6 seconds, respectively. New for the 2013 R8 is the V10 Plus package, which pumps the 5.2-liter’s power up to 550 hp and shaves a tenth of a second off the 0-to-62-mph time. No matter the engine, the R8 just sings, and this video sends both coupe and spyder models onto the track for us to enjoy those eight- and ten-cylinder soundtracks.
Aesthetic upgrades include a new grille, revised full-LED headlights and taillights, and updated front and rear bumpers. Inside, the MMI infotainment system has been upgraded and there’s a new steering wheel. But who cares about what the cabin looks like when we can watch the muscular body and screaming engines race by? We greatly encourage you to watch the video below at least once, twice, or maybe three times.
