Road trips can be adventurous, but for younger passengers they can feel never-ending. Honda released a new commercial featuring its redesigned for 2012 eight-passenger Pilot SUV on a road trip. One of the kids sitting in the third row begins mimicking the bass line to Ozzy Osbourne’s “Crazy Train” and is joined by others until everyone spontaneously starts rocking out to the song.
Honda plays up its SUV’s eight-passenger capacity as bonding time; to make road trips more enjoyable through “Smarter Thinking.” But, not too long ago automakers touted DVD players and television screens in minivans and SUVs as making long journeys more bearable. (Which Honda is still doing in another 2012 Pilot ad.)
But let’s be real here, folks. How many kids under 13 do you know that know who Ozzy is apart from his MTV reality series, much less music from three decades ago? And if mom and dad started spontaneously rocking out to ‘80s heavy-metal, do you think the kids would join in, or just roll their eyes and shake their heads?
