Feature Flick: 2012 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor Hits the Dirt on This Week’s Ignition

It’s a change of setting on this week’s episode of Ignition, as Motor Trend associate road test editor Carlos Lago leaves the test track behind for a setting better suited for the 2012 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor: an off-road course.

As expected, the Raptor didn’t excel on the track, finding the slow line around our figure-eight course. Despite that, Lago points out those numbers don’t really matter, because the Raptor was built to shine off the track – at a place like Hungry Valley SVRA, where our host takes the pickup next. While en route, Lago is surprised to find the Raptor delivers the best of both worlds, praising the amenities found inside, but also the truck’s compliant suspension based around Fox Racing shocks.

Once off-road, Lago puts the Raptor’s 411-hp, 6.2-liter V-8 through its paces by power-sliding through sand washes, and tests out the beadlock tires as it traverses up the hills. Is the Ford F-150 SVT Raptor the king of the sandbox?
