The 2014 Audi R8 V10 Plus proved itself in our most recent Standing Mile video, where it handily defeated the 2014 Jaguar XKR-S GT. Yet the 550-hp supercar was equally impressive on its own. We tested the R8 on a 2.2-mile runway for the ultimate high-speed thrill.
Thanks to its stellar all-wheel-drive system, quick shifting seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, and powerful 5.2-liter V-10, the 2014 Audi R8 V10 Plus is electrifying off the line. Using launch control, the R8 zoomed past 60 mph in 3.5 seconds, and reached 100 mph in a brisk 7.8 seconds.
“We hit 190 mph at 50.3 seconds, at which point we started to run out of tarmac,” said road test editor Chris Nelson. “The gauges were reading just under 200 mph at that point, but the data from our V-BOX testing equipment recorded a 190 mph top speed.”
In doing so, the carbon-fiber-laden 2014 Audi R8 V10 Plus sounded as spectacular as it performed. The mid-mounted V-10 and performance exhaust made the R8 whir like a full-on fighter jet, which put it right at home on the otherwise empty airstrip.
Even though it’s due for an update soon (we spied the 2016 model on the Nürburgring), the 2014 Audi R8 V10 Plus still deserves credit for the venomous velocity hound it is. Unfortunately, the mid-engine monster doesn’t come cheap—our test vehicle came with an exorbitant $188,995 price tag.
