The saying goes, “everything’s bigger in Texas.” Presumably, that applies to horsepower as well, with Houston-based Hennessey Performance Engineering’s latest Cadillac CTS-V-based creation burning some rubber, on the dyno, no less. How much horsepressure are we talking? According to Hennessey, 1066 hp and 964 lb-ft.
Give or take a few dozen ponies, that’s about double that of a stock CTS-V, which is no piker in the power department in its own right. But to achieve that astounding number, it took more than just a quick chip-tune and pulley change on the blower. In fact, the VR1200 gets rid of the factory-issue CTS-V twin-screw supercharger entirely, instead relying on 427 cubic inches (7.0 liters) and twin turbochargers.
After the brief dyno footage, the rest of the three-minute video is a slide show of different angles of the menacing-looking VR1200, set to an appropriately dark and foreboding soundtrack. How about some in-car dashcam footage, John?
Hennessey is only planning to build 12 of the VR1200 special-edition CTS-V coupes, but offers most of the performance upgrades a la carte for any CTS-V, or presumably a Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 as well. A 1200-hp Camaro ought to silence the Ford fanboys bragging about the 2013 Shelby’s 662 hp. Then again, Shelby American might have something to say about that too.
