Like the smart fortwo, but still think its 33/41 mpg city/highway rating is too thirsty?; Your answer may come in 2010, when Smart is expected to launch an electric version of the two-seat city car.
Daimler AG chairman Dieter Zetsche confirmed the project during an interview with a German newspaper, but noted there was still a tremendous amount of uncertainty surrounding the car.; Zetsche says the automaker is unsure if it will lease or sell the car’s batteries, nor does he know if Daimler will build the electric motors itself.
Such a project would be the first full-fledged attempt to build an electric ForTwo.; In 2005, 100 examples were built by British engineering firm Zytek, but the project never progressed past the test phase.
