EDITORS NOTEBOOK: 2008 Porsche Cayman S, Day 2

It’s very obvious the Cayman is built for drivers. There aren’t any buttons on the steering wheel (save for the typical horn effect if you push on the middle). These days manufacturers seem to be in a race to complicate the most basic of controls in vehicles. The bare steering wheel and hidden cup holders remind you the car is built for driving, not commuting or running errands.

I absolutely loved my time behind the wheel, but I really dislike the yellow paint and seatbelts. Suddenly everyone on the road wanted to race me and I became paranoid running my usual 5 mph over the limit when I was on the Ohio Turnpike. I just can’t imagine getting any slack from the local law enforcement in a car this audacious. With a car this elegant, I’d much prefer a subdued hue.
