EDITORS NOTEBOOK: 2007 BMW X5 30, Day 2

Read Jason Cammisa’s comments on driving the 2007 BMW X5 3.0.

Fantastic shift quality, engine sounds nice. Annoying electronics and user interface – why does everything need to be so difficult?!; Quiet and smooth on the highway – way too much (scary amounts, in fact) of lift-off oversteer. Scared the heck out of me, in fact, and DSC was late to intervene, and violent when it did, thankfully. Returns decent gas mileage when you’re nice to it – I saw 24 indicated on a leisurely back-road cruise. A nice truck, but I think I like the old one better. And the front end clunks just like our long-termer. Something’s definitely wrong with this front suspension. And I agree with Lorio – compared to the T-Reg VR6, it’s quicker, sounds better, feels more well-put together, and has better steering (heavy is good for me).
