Ducati boss Gabriele del Torchio recently took delivery of a new 2012 Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG. It’s the latest display of the partnership between the Italian motorcycle maker and AMG.
Del Torchio’s four-wheeled beast from Mercedes’ performance arm is flashy and fast. His CLS63 sports the Mercedes’ designo zircon red paint and is equipped with the AMG Performance Package which boosts horsepower to 557 compared to 525 hp in the standard CLS63 AMG. Last month, Ducati MotoGP rider Nicky Hayden visited AMG headquarters in Affalterbach to take home his own CLS63, which also has the Performance Package but is donned in stealthy matte-gray paint.
AMG and Ducati announced their partnership last November at the Los Angeles Auto Show, shortly before the start of the MotoGP season (the motorcycle racing version of Formula 1). As an “Official Car Partner” and sponsor of Ducati, AMG has supplied the prestigious motorcycle maker with company cars, team trucks and back-up vehicles. In exchange, AMG’s logo can be found throughout Ducati’s race bikes and suits its riders wear.
And both companies have plans to continue the marketing barrage outside of the racing world. Drivers who attend AMG’s driving academy, for example, will be able to check out and ride Ducati’s entire product line, while attendees of Ducati’s Riding Experience will have the chance to get behind the wheel of AMGs.
