If you think every executive present at an auto show press preview is employed by an automaker or supplier, think again. Many dealership owners also use the press days to network with automakers and press alike, as Automobile President and Editor-in-Chief Jean Jennings found out.
Jennings bumped into both Roger Penske and Mike Jackson at the 2013 Detroit auto show. You may not know the names, but you might certainly know their dealership networks. Jackson, who previously helmed Mercedes-Benz’s North American branch, is CEO of AutoNation, one of America’s largest dealer networks. Penske – a long-time industrialist/ business man/ race team owner also owns Penske Automotive, which is the second-largest publicly traded dealer chain in the U.S.
