Seeing as Toyota’s working over its giant Land Cruiser SUV for the 2013 model year, it’s not surprising to learn Lexus’ flagship sport ute — the 2013 LX 570 — also gains a few new tweaks at the same time.
As with most facelifts, most of the work is cosmetic. The LX gains refreshed front and rear bumper fascias, while the new front grille is patterned after Lexus’ new familial grille. The front clip now includes new LED daytime running lights, as well as a new headlight design.
Under the hood, it’s business as usual. A 5.7-liter V-8 engine pumping out 383 horsepower and 403 pound-feet of torque. The power is sent through a six-speed automatic transmission and a full-time four-wheel drive system, which sends 40 percent of the power to the front and 60 to the rear.
The LX’s size may seem unwieldy, but a new feature called Turn Assist can brake inside wheels during tight turns to decrease the its turning radius. When the terrain gets tough, the Lexus gets a Range Rover-like Multi-Terrain Select feature that allows drivers to tune the LX’s suspension and traction control systems for the terrain at hand.
But the Lexus’ trickest feature is its Lexus Enform system, derivative of Toyota’s Entune. It now features Enform Applications, which allows the car to connect to internet radio, review sites like Yelp and Facebook Places, and OpenTable restaurant reservations.
While the LX570 and Toyota Land Cruiser get the same slate of improvements, it’s important to note that the LX’s facelift will ultimately see more customers: it’s estimated that the LX outsells the Toyota–with which it shares a platform and powertrain–by almost 3 to 1.
