As the old adage goes, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” and that is exactly what Audi has done for 2013 with its A4 and S4 sedans, A5, S5, and RS5 coupes, and A5 and S5 coupes. A little nip here a little tuck there, and voila! a fresh face for the four rings’ best-selling models.
The big news here is that the RS5 coupe, which has been on sale in Europe since 2010, will now be coming to the U.S. market, though as a special-order item only. Pricing for the BMW M3- and Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG-fighting coupe has yet to be announced. Whatever the price, we will get the luxury of enjoying 450 hp and 317 lb-ft of torque from the 4.2-liter V-8 engine and quick shifts of the seven-speed S-tronic dual-clutch gearbox.
Audi also put the rest of the A4/S4 and A5/S5 family on display. The A4 and A5’s 2.0-liter turbocharged I-4 and eight-speed transmission carry over, as does the optional Quattro all-wheel drive system. The S4 and S5 Cabriolet see no mechanical changes, but the S5 coupe drops the naturally-aspirated 4.2-liter V-8 in exchange for the same 333-hp 3.0-liter supercharged V-6 found in the S4 and S5 Cab. (Don’t let the 3.0T badging deceive you.)
Cosmetically, all five cars gain full-LED taillights that include the brand’s trademark wide-U shaped LED rear light, revised headlights that are slimmer with LED light-pipe running lights, and the brand’s hexagonal grille. Inside, matte wood trim is now offered, as is a new steering wheel and revised shift levers.
