Although a number of TV pundits have recently been extolling the virtues of investing in gold, we’re not sure that they had this in mind. You’re looking at what may be the most unusual paint hue yet applied to Mercedes-Benz’s new SLS AMG sports car.
Unveiled at the Dubai motor show alongside three special-edition Bugatti Veyrons, this particular SLS AMG is finished in what Mercedes calls “AMG Desert Gold.” Like the Monza Grey Magno and Magno Alanite grey colors already offered as options, the golden hue bears a matte finish.
Don’t look for chrome on this show car — parts normally slathered in the silvery finish have been painted in a high-gloss black. Wheels are no exception. They’re black, and topped with a golden highlight around their circumference.
Mercedes-Benz says the color is meant as a “token of respect” for the Middle East (Mercedes’ fourth-largest market), but won’t be offered as a production color. Of course, should a customer approach the company with some extra cash in hand, nothing is impossible…
