Customer Care: Saab Automobile Parts AB Comes to North America

Saab may have stopped rolling cars off the line at its Trollhattan factory, but that doesn’t mean the plant doesn’t still have signs of life. Saab Automobile Parts AB has prevented it from collecting dust and is keeping the Swedish name alive.

Saab has about 1.5 million customers worldwide, with roughly 500,000 in them in the U.S. and Canada — that’s the largest concentration of Saab owners anywhere, reports Automotive News Europe.  As a result, Saab Automobile Parts AB, the company’s parts and service branch, has opened a North American subsidiary. While the company will take care of a good chunk of Saab owners, other companies in Great Britain and Sweden provide service for about 70 percent of other owners around the world.

“Our mission is to take care of all Saab owners,” said Lennart Stahl, CEO of Saab Automobile Parts, to Automotive News Europe.

Saab Automobile Parts, which has nothing to do with the bankruptcy process, provides tech support to about 1200 workshops worldwide. Around 30 of its employees are still working in the Trollhattan’s press and body shop making replacement parts such as hoods, doors, and fenders. While Saab’s parts operations is still kicking, rumors suggest a new owner for the automaker may be on the horizon. Chinese company Youngman Lotus has dropped as the lead bidder, with a Swedish electric car company taking its place. “There is no question that someone will take over the company,” Stahl said to Automotive News Europe. “We expect to hear something in the coming weeks. It looks promising.”
