Could This Nismo Teaser Preview the Next Nissan Z?

Nissan issued a teaser today that previews a new model from the company’s Nismo performance division that will be unveiled tomorrow. From the looks of it, we expect that this photo previews a new Nismo-tuned version of the Nissan 370Z.

The 370Z’s distinctive, swoopy headlight design is clearly visible in the teaser, suggesting that this could be the 2015 Nissan 370Z Nismo. Compared with the current Z Nismo, though, this car’s front end displays a much more aggressive-looking front splitter, a new lighting element below the headlight, and a significantly wider grille. Could Nissan be unveiling the all-new, redesigned Z?

Given that the current Nissan 370Z has been around since 2009, and received a mid-cycle refresh for the 2013 model year, it doesn’t seem too far-fetched that Nissan would be rolling the next generation of this sports car right about now. If so, it’s interesting that the car will be revealed in Nismo-spec first. Nissan’s performance arm has been more active as of late, with production models like the Nissan GT-R Nismo and Nissan Juke Nismo, as well as concepts like the Sentra Nismo, bringing more attention to the performance division within the last year.

The current 2014 Nissan 370Z Nismo offers a number of performance upgrades over the standard 370Z coupe, including a stiffer suspension, 18 more horsepower for the 3.7-liter V-6, larger brakes, a Nismo dual exhaust, and aerodynamic upgrades like a front splitter and a rear spoiler.

We can’t wait to hear more about what this new Nismo model has to offer, so stay tuned for Nissan’s official announcement at 1 p.m. Eastern time tomorrow, May 16, when the car will be unveiled at a the ZDAYZ Nissan Z event in North Carolina.
