Chrysler Limiting 2013 SRT Viper Allocation to 100-150 Dealers

Chrysler will be charging dealership $25,000 for the privilege of selling the new 2013 SRT Viper, or just a bit less than it costs to take home a base Dodge Challenger. Just 100-150 of Chrysler’s more than 2300 dealers will be selected to sell the Viper.

The one-time $25,000 fee Chrysler will charge the dealers who want to sell the 2013 SRT Viper includes the $20,000 fee to actually sell the Viper and a $5000 SRT agreement that includes tools, equipment, SRT-specific training, and a day spent at the SRT Track Experience – the track event that is offered free to buyers of SRT vehicles.

USA Today reports that only about 100 to 150 of the 2300 Chrysler, Dodge, Fiat, and Ram dealers in the U.S. will actually get approval to sell the new supercar. In a letter sent to dealers, SRT chief Ralph Gilles said that the number one requirement to sell the new Viper “is first of all, to have the fire, the passion. That’s the unofficial requirement – that you have a love affair with the cars and you just love fast cars.”

Gilles said to Automotive News that SRT cars have begun to attract “more sophisticated” buyers with higher income and education levels than before. Chrysler no doubt hopes the more sophisticated buyers won’t think twice about the $99,390 base price for the 2013 Viper and the $122,390 price of the more upscale Viper GTS. The 2013 SRT Viper is powered by an 8.4-liter 640-hp and 600 lb-ft of torque V-10, and offers Uconnect Access, a cloud-based infotainment system debuting on the new Viper and 2013 Ram 1500.

Dealers can start taking orders on the 2013 SRT Viper in November.
