At the 2014 SEMA Show in Las Vegas this past October, hosts from the Motor Trend YouTube Channel were on a quest to find a showcar that would compete in a four-way drag race. Only a couple of hosts were successful in finding a car to race in the desert, but who will win? Mike Finnegan, Mike Sabounchi, Fred Williams, and Jessi Lang all go head-to-head at the Kern Inyo airport with their cars, which include everything from a modified Chevrolet Sonic RS to a stock 707-hp 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat.
As we saw earlier this week, Finnegan was unsuccessful in finding a car for the race, but he’s not too worried, as he proudly shows up with his own car. Blasphemi is Finnegan’s weapon of choice, as it’s his own 1955 Chevy Bel Air powered by a 700-hp 426-cubic-inch Hemi V-8. After he and Blasphemi arrive at the airstrip, Super Street’s Mike Sabounchi starts to realize he might be in trouble since he’s only got his Chevy Sonic RS. He says the RS stands for really slow, and although he already knows he’s not going to win the race in terms of speed, he knows he’ll walk away with the most fuel in his tank.
Things get really interesting when a bright green 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat arrives with Jessi behind the wheel. Unlike the other two, Lang was able to use her connections and borrow the Hellcat straight from the show floor. The three then anticipate Williams’ arrival, since he boasted he had a 10,000-hp car to race with. Much to their surprise, Williams shows up in a tracked 1958 Jeep Forward Control. While that may be good for snow, it’s not ideal for racing, but Williams is excited to participate anyway.
The racers line up before at the start, and then take off at wide open throttle, with Blasphemi taking the early lead. The Hellcat isn’t far behind though, and with the Sonic and Jeep left in the dust, this becomes a two-car race. But who will take the win — Blasphemi or the Hellcat?
