With the 2012 BMW 3 Series sedan ready for prime time, the coupe version isn’t too far away. BMW is still busy testing the two-door and the folks over at Motor Trend just caught one racking up some miles on German roads. It’s still wearing too much camouflage for our tastes, but we expect most of it to peel away soon enough.
Although the two-door 3 may soon be known as the 4 Series, there’s a good chance both cars will share several design elements, including the unique front fascia with taillights that blend into the twin-kidney grille. Both the 3 and 4 should be mechanically identical. That means engine choices will includes the 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder engine rated 240 hp and the 3.0-liter, twin-turbo, inline-six rated at 300 hp. Last, but not least, BMW’s performance arm will make an M version to sit atop the totem pole — although we’re not sure M4 has the same ring as M3.
