Caught! BMW Dresses Up 6 Series Gran Coupe With Sport Package

BMW hasn’t even officially unveiled its 6 Series Gran Coupe yet and already it’s testing a cosmetically-enhanced version of the four-door coupe. Our esteemed colleagues at Motor Trend have caught what looks like a 6 Series Gran Coupe with the M Sports package. The differences may be slight, but this car looks to have taken some styling cues from its coupe-bodied high-performance sibling, the M6.

Just like on other BMWs, the M Sports package upgrades the appearance of the standard 6 Series Gran Coupe. The front valance looks to be the same as the one found on the 6 Series coupe with sport package we last saw in March, with a different lower intake design than the standard Gran Coupe. Side skirts are also different, looking generally larger here than on the car we saw in June. Finally, arriving at the car’s rear, we can see the M6 influence more clearly. The thin auxiliary lights normally embedded in the rear bumper have migrated north, now located just underneath the taillights of this car – the spot where they reside on the M6. The exhaust is also unique to this test mule, with dual trapezoidal tips molded into the rear bumper. Wheels don’t appear that different from the ones we saw on the last Gran Coupe, but you can probably expect a unique set to come with the M Sports package when it eventually hits dealer showrooms.

North American Gran Coupe models will likely come equipped with the same twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V-8 as the 650i, which is good for 400 hp and 450 lb-ft of torque. The M Sports package won’t offer anymore power over the standard Gran Coupe, and although the car will have a sportier look, taking on Mercedes-Benz’ heavy-hitting CLS AMG will probably require a genuine M model.
