Like the previous prototype and other GM SUV mules, this Escalade sports a large grille oval likely intended to disguise it as a Ford, but the Cadillac egg crate grille is unmistakable through the camouflage.
Few details have been revealed about the next-generation Escalade, but the automaker plans to move the interior further upmarket to distinguish it from its lesser Chevrolet and GMC platform-mates. The details of those changes remain speculative, but the luxury brand’s new CUE infotainment system, available on the ATS, XTS, and refreshed SRX, is a good bet.
The new Escalade will share the latest GMT900 truck platform with the upcoming Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups and Yukon and Tahoe SUVs. Expect the Escalade’s sheetmetal and lighting to distance itself from its platform-mates as well. Full LED exterior lighting may trickle down from the Platinum model to lesser trim levels.
The Escalade could get the all-new Gen V small block V-8 that is debuting in the C7 Corvette. A twin-turbo version of the 3.6-liter V-6 could also find its way under the hood as the base or an optional engine. Whatever engine options the Escalade gets, an eight-speed automatic is expected to replace the current model’s six-speed slushbox.
