Car Geeks and Snow

Behind all the beautiful pictures, fabulous features, and raw data there has to be a logistics person to put everything together. It helps if this person is a car geek. Oh, and it’s snowing today…

Meet me, Marc Noordeloos, road test coordinator for Automobile Magazine. I am a car geek.

Before hopping on board at the magazine, I managed a historic sports car racing and rally team. During that time I sat shotgun in three LaCarrera Panamericana rallies and managed a fleet of IMSA GTP race cars in the States and Europe.

But onto the weather. As I sit looking out my window at what should be a beautiful, mild October afternoon, all I see are snowflakes. Funny thing, all I can think about is the enormous grin I get when the first proper dump of snow arrives. The wonderful white stuff helps make driving so much fun.

My last car was a Subaru WRX shod with Dunlop Winter Sport M3 tires and it was the definition of winter fun. Decent ground clearance, a tail happy nature when slippery, and the unique flat-four engine note helped make the Subaru a fabulous cold weather companion although all the fun pushed my winter fuel mileage into SUV territory. The high fuel bills could not begin to dull my ear to ear smile. Outside of motor racing, I can think of very few automotive activities as fun as a blast through Michigan’s worst.
