The Callaway Cars AeroWagon conversion for a 2014 Chevrolet Corvette will cost $15,000, and the company will begin performing the conversions in January 2014. The AeroWagon, first shown as a concept in March, transforms a standard 2014 Chevrolet Corvette into a “shooting brake” design with an enlarged cargo area.
The AeroWagon conversion essentially replaces the Chevrolet Corvette’s glass rear hatch with a carbon-fiber piece that, according to Callaway representatives, will increase cargo room and will open just like the factory hatch. The company previously told us that it builds the carbon-fiber component itself at a facility in Santa Ana, California, and that the body was penned by Callaway Cars designer Paul Deutschman.
The aforementioned $15,000 base price is slightly misleading because it results in the new hatch being finished in exposed carbon fiber. Paint-matching it with the rest of the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette costs an additional $1500, and it seems like almost every buyer will choose that option so the car looks more like the renderings above. With the add-on shooting brake bodywork in place, we think the AeroWagon somewhat resembles a Ferrari FF.
Because the new bodywork is simply bolted in place, a Callaway representative says the conversion can be performed in a matter of hours while a customer waits. Paint-matching it, however, would take up to a week.The company is currently building prototypes of the AeroWagon conversion and will start performing the transformation for paying customers in January.
Although Callaway has yet to test the AeroWagon in a wind tunnel, representatives expect the car will be as aerodynamic as a standard 2014 Chevrolet Corvette, meaning there should be no adverse effects on its performance.
