Britain Implements Eco Friendly Driving Test

To comply with new European Union legislation, the United Kingdom has enacted new practices during driving tests to teach fuel saving techniques.

In addition to basic driving skills like parking and speed management, instructors will now comment (but not grade) on students’ ability to drive efficiently.
Smoother acceleration, avoiding sudden stops, and more economic gear shifting are traits that driving instructors will now be observing. The British government hopes the new skills can conserve a month’s worth of gas for every year of smart driving, saving both money and the environment.
With tips like “gears are for going, brakes are for slowing” being taught to new drivers, the government hopes that the new lessons will promote a situation where everyone wins.
