BMW Recalling Diesel-Powered X5 For Fuel Heater Issue
BMW is recalling certain 2009 X5 SUVs with diesel engines due to a potential fuel filter heater issue. The heater is used to warm the vehicles diesel fuel in cold-temperature driving conditions.
The Problem: According to BMW, the fuel filter heater remains on, even after the X5 is shut off and parked. Faulty heaters will discharge the battery prematurely; it's also possible that the heater could overheat causing a fire.
The Fix: The recall will start in October 2011. BMW will replace the filter heater free of charge. Owners should contact BMW at 1-800-525-7417 with any questions.
Number of Vehicles Affected: 2120 model-year 2009 BMW X5 SUVs with the diesel engine manufactured from October 1, 2008 to June 12, 2009.
