BMW is expected to release the full skinny on the 2012 1 Series M Coupe very soon, but until then, the automaker has provided yet another teaser video to whet your appetite.
We’ve previously laid eyes upon (and driven) the 1 Series M Coupe underneath some camoflauge, but this clip is the first real — albeit brief — look we’ve had of the finished product without any canvas padding or vinyl wraps. The car sports a much more aggressive look, thanks in no small part to flared fenders and a restyled front bumper fascia. Large wheels and tires almost overwhelm the diminutive 1 Series body, while the rear diffuser looks as if it could rip pavement from the earth’s surface.
From what we’ve learned, BMW is aiming the performance-tuned 1 Series directly at the hardcore enthusiast, and is skipping any automatic or dual-clutch transmission choices in favor of a six-speed manual. The company’s twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter I-6 is packed underhood, and it’s widely believed to be producing more power than the similar mill used in the 335is.
Will this prove to be a spiritual successor to the original M3? Time will tell — and time, it seems, will also reveal the full details on the new 1 Series M Coupe. Check out the video here, but check back on our website later this week for the official details.
