2006 BMW 330i / 3-series Photo Gallery

[cars name="BMW"] has released officially photos of the 2006 3-series sedans, and they look exactly like the ones we showed you two months ago in the October issue of Automobile magazine. Note the significantly toned-down “flame surfacing” that is BMW star designer Adrian van Hooydonk’s hallmark; BMW doesn’t want to risk alienating buyers from its bread and butter vehicle with too radical a design.

The 330i gets a new 3.0-liter in-line six that uses Valvetronic, a throttle-dependent, infinitely variable valve timing system that eliminates the need for a throttle butterfly. Previously seen in the U.S. on eight- and twelve-cylinder engines, Valvetronic combines with a magnesium crankcase, crankshaft bearings, and valve cover to produce 255 horsepower at 6650 rpm and rev safely to 7000 rpm while using twelve percent less fuel than the previous 225-horsepower 3.0-liter six.
