Australian Specials: Ford Falcon GT R-Spec and Holden SV ClubSport, Maloo

Chevrolet and Ford have been busy releasing Camaro and Mustang variants to keep American enthusiasts entertained, but the folks down under are having some musclecar fun, too. Holden Special Vehicles (HSV) and Ford Performance Vehicles (FPV) recently pulled the wraps off a few new vehicles, adding to the list of drool-worthy, rear-drive sports cars available in the Australian market.
HSV is celebrating its 25th anniversary by launching two new vehicles. First is the entry-level HSV ClubSport, which will sit below the ClubSport R8 and feature General Motors’ 6.2-liter LS3 V-8, tuned to produce 425 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque, making slightly less power than the 436-hp R8. The new Maloo will share identical engines and power ratings as the ClubSport. Standard features for both cars include 20-inch rims, sport suspension, 4-piston brake package, performance seats, navigation, and a backup camera. Production for both vehicles starts this week.
Next up is the Falcon GT R-Spec from FPV. The R-Spec model is essentially a Falcon GT with upgraded tires and suspension. That means the untouched 5.0-liter supercharged V-8 is still produces 449 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque. Modifications focus on improving grip, both off the line and through the corners. The rear tires, for example, are nine inches wide, one inch more than on the GT. Suspension tweaks include higher spring rates, beefier anti-roll bars, and retuned dampers. FPV, said to be influenced by the new Mustang Boss 302 during the 18-month development period, also added Launch Control for more consistent acceleration runs.
The Falcon GT R-Spec has a limited production run of 350 units and will be visual distinguishable thanks Mustang-Boss style C-stripe accents, black painted exhaust tips, and a spoiler.
