This year’s crop of Audi R8 race cars set to race in the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona will get a whole new look, as Audi has shown the new lineup in preparation for the race which takes place January 25-26. The five Audi R8 LMS racers will represent four Audi customer race teams that hope to replicate last year’s Audi R8 win in the grueling endurance race’s GT Class.
The four Audi Sport customer racing teams include Fall-Line Motorsports, Flying Lizard Motorsports (which will field two cars), GMG Racing, and Paul Miller Racing. Last year, Audi Sport customer racing team Alex Job Racing took home the trophy in the GT Class of the 24 Hours of Daytona, and another Audi team took second place. The GT (Gran Turismo) Class is made up of race cars that are nearer to production cars, and the Audi R8 racers that compete at Daytona are powered by a 5.2-liter V-10 similar to the V-10 in the Audi R8 road car.
Like before, each Audi team will have four drivers and for the 24-hour race. Testing and other preparations started and November and continues today; tomorrow January 3, all teams and drivers will participate in a practice event called the “Roar Before the Rolex 24.” The various new liveries include the black and white Paul Miller Racing car, the red and grey Flying Lizard car, the blue and white GMG Racing car, and the blue Fall-Line car.
Stay tuned for news from the 2014 running of the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona to see if one of the Audi teams can pull off a repeat victory in Florida.
