App For That: The Classic Car Buying App Coming to an iPad Near You

Ready to turn that tax return into Toronado, but not an expert on classic cars? As you might’ve guessed, there’s an app for that and it could come in handy at the next auction.

Be it a long-awaited raise at work or an extra hefty tax return, you’ve got cash and you need to blow it before the wife finds out. Time to get that ’70 Challenger you’ve always wanted? Could be, but you don’t want to get taken, and you may not be an expert on vintage iron. What to do? Chubb Insurance has a new Classic Car Guide iPad app it thinks can help.

With Keith Martin’s Sports Car Market providing the data, the Classic Car Guide will give you a wealth of information not only on your model of choice, but on the exact car you’re buying. Get a hold of the VIN and you can find out when it was last sold (assuming it was sold at auction, a fair bet) and for how much. Then use the iPad’s wireless internet capability to find out what comparable cars are selling for today and how far you’d have to drive to get one.

Boasting a database of more than 100,000 articles from 20 years’ worth of reference books, articles and photos as well as pricing information gleaned from Craigslist and eBay, Chubb says the Classic Car Guide can tell you what to look for on your potential dream car and how much you should be paying for it. The app will also give you on-the-spot insurance quotes from Chubb Insurance based on the car’s location, VIN or year/make/model.

The Classic Car Guide iPad app is available free at the iTunes store. If you’re the kind of casual enthusiast looking for the car of your dreams without spending months or years researching and searching for the perfect car, it could be right up your alley.
