Almost Ready To Emerge: Infiniti Gives Geneva-Bound EV Concept Emerg-E Name

Bit by bit, Infiniti has been teasing us with continual tidbits about the range-extended, mid-engine concept car that is it going to debut at the Geneva Motor Show this spring. Today, we learn the car’s name: Emerg-E.

Despite all the teasing, not much is known yet about Infiniti’s newest exotic concept. What we do know is that the Emerg-E will be an electric car in the vein of the Chevrolet Volt, and that its range-extender engine will reside between both axles. Expect to see the 80-kw electric motor and lithium-ion battery pack from the Leaf to carry over. What engine will operate as the range extender has yet to be seen, nor do we know yet if it will be powered by a gas or diesel engine; however, we know that said engine will displace 1.2 liters. No matter the decision, Infiniti promises that the new car will be able to have the ability to run in a pure electric mode and will be rear-wheel drive.

Despite the Emerg-E teasers showing a familial similarity to the Etherea and Essence concepts, Infiniti has previously stated that the new car will be a “chance in vocabulary” for the brand’s design direction. We can see that the fan-like rear-pillar treatment from the two previous concepts – and on the 2013 JX35 crossover – will make an appearance here.

We’re sure that more details will continue to be released as we get closer to the car’s unveil in March at the Geneva Motor Show.
