The Acura TSX is more efficient for 2011 and will receive a price bump of $300 over equivalent 2010 models. 2011 TSXs go on sale next week.
Both four-cylinder models will start at $30,470. Go for the 3.5-liter V-6 model and the base price is $36,010. Add $3100 to any model for the Technology Package, which now includes an LED-backlit VGA navigation screen (400 percent better resolution than before) and improved navigation system functions. Navigation-equipped TSXs can now download 15 gigabytes of personal music to the HDD system.
Acura has increased fuel efficiency on the four- and six-cylinder models by a single mpg in the city and on the highway while also lowering emissions and increasing engine life. The I-4 and V-6 engines now have reduced internal operating friction, leading to the improvements. The I-4 is expected to be rated 22/31 mpg city/highway with the five-speed automatic transmission and 21/29 with the manual. The V-6, only offered with a five-speed automatic, will be rated 19/28 mpg.
On the outside, the changes are subtle. The controversial power plenum grille is more subdued for 2011 and the standard 17-inch alloy wheels may look the same but are now more “cutting edge,” Acura says, as they have a machined lip on the face of the spokes. The front fascia and chin spoiler have also been tweaked.
Inside, the center console has been updated and there are darker trim pieces, brightly finished door handles, a new parking brake handle, and minor changes to the steering wheel. A more significant improvement, perhaps, is the addition of vents at the rear of the center console for rear seat passengers.
The TSX will be quieter in 2011 as a result of thicker side glass, more sound-deadening insulation, and a new acoustic glass front windshield. The five-speed automatic transmission now has a fluid warmer to improve shift quality and transmission durability.
If you were in the market for an entry-level front-wheel-drive sport sedan, would the 2011 Acura TSX’s improvements make it more likely to be your choice?
