The V-8-powered 2014 Audi R8 has supercar looks and is wicked quick, but we wouldn’t go so far as to call it a real supercar. No, for that you have to look to the V-10-powered R8. Yes, we say that’s a real supercar, but perhaps you take issue with that statement. Then have a look at the newest addition to the R8 lineup, the 2014 Audi R8 V10 Plus.
It’s available only as a coupe and weighs 130 pounds less than a regular big-engine coupe. It has ceramic brakes, a more compact fuel tank, less sound insulation in the engine bay, and lots of carbon-fiber pieces. The 2014 Audi R8 V10 Plus also has manually adjustable Alcantara seats but can be optioned with diamond-stitched leather for $5000. Alcantara is nice, but leather is necessary on anything that costs well over $150,000.
Still not convinced the 2014 Audi R8 V10 Plus is a real supercar? It’s a Lamborghini Gallardo in a less pretentious package. It turns as many heads as a Ferrari does. It has 550 horsepower and a top speed of almost 200 mph. It has smooth power delivery and savagely quick shifts. It can hustle away from a stoplight and get to 60 mph in just over three seconds.
