We still have half-a-month to go but Hyundai has already set a new U.S. sales record in 2010. For the first time ever, the automaker has surpassed sales of 500,000 units in one year.
Look to the Sonata midsize sedan for a major contributor to the 500,000 units. Through the end of November, Hyundai sold about 70,000 more Sonatas than in the same period last year. Elantra sales are up 41 percent, and monthly totals should continue going up once more people are aware of the new model. Only 192 new Elantras have been sold so far.
The Tucson SUV has more than doubled its sales this year, though the much older Santa Fe SUV still sells twice as well. Overall, Hyundai proudly notes its market share has increased to almost five percent. Calendar year 2011 will be Hyundai’s 25th year in the U.S. — how many vehicles do you think the automaker will sell next year?
