The Chevrolet Cruze has been a huge hit for General Motors, as over three million copies of this compact car have been sold since 2008. As it is built at 11 different plants and sold in 118 countries worldwide, the Cruze is easily Chevrolet’s best-selling model, and this 3 million unit milestone comes only 16 months after the 2 millionth Cruze was sold in 2013.
China is the biggest market for the Chevrolet Cruze, as over 1.13 million of the 3 million total were sold there since the vehicle launched in the Chinese market in 2009. The U.S. market comprises the second highest numbers, with 900,000 models sold since 2008.
Although we only get the four-door sedan version of the Chevrolet Cruze in the U.S., across the globe the car is also available in five-door hatchback and wagon forms. Other global variants of the Cruze also have additional engine options to supplant the 1.8-liter, 1.4-liter turbocharged, and 2.0-liter turbodiesel four-cylinder powertrains that we get here in the U.S.
For 2015, the Chevrolet Cruze receives a slight facelift in the U.S. (pictured), and we’re expecting to see a completely redesigned model debut within the next year as a 2016 model. Spy shots indicate that this car will adopt new styling with a more streamlined silhouette and similar proportions to the Honda Civic and Hyundai Elantra.
