2016 Kia Sorento Interior Teased Ahead of Korean Premiere

Following a previous teaser of the resigned 2016 Kia Sorento exterior, the Korean automaker released a teaser sketch of the interior ahead of the car’s debut late this month. As we saw with the thoroughly updated outer design, the 2016 Kia Sorento will get an overhauled and modernized interior design that will bring it closer in line with Kia’s higher-quality direction.

Even when the current Kia Sorento was significantly updated for the 2014 model year, its interior remained somewhat bland and lacking in quality. Apparently the 2016 Kia Sorento will exhibit “dramatic quality improvements” that include more comprehensive use of soft-touch materials like stitched leather, a contemporary-styled wrap-around dashboard, and an updated infotainment system.

The new Sorento will have push-button start as well as Kia’s newest HMI infotainment system. The screen will be integrated neatly into the center stack between two air vents and surrounded with chrome trim, with a simple knob-and-button control panel underneath that looks to be a scaled-down version of the unit from the Kia Cadenza.

The sketch of the 2016 Kia Sorento interior suggests much cleaner horizontal lines, which Kia says will emphasize the vehicle’s increased width and space. We know that the new Sorento will have a larger footprint than in the past, although it’s still not certain whether it will remain on the Hyundai Santa Fe’s platform or switch to that of the redesigned 2015 Kia Sedona minivan.

In addition to a classed-up exterior with Kia’s “Tiger” grille and LED-accented headlights, the 2016 Kia Sorento will likely adopt the automaker’s 3.3-liter direct-injection V-6, producing 290 hp. Another possibility is a turbo-four geared toward increased fuel economy. Front – and all-wheel drive will be offered.
Check back for more once the 2016 Kia Sorento debuts late this month in South Korea, which will precede the European model slated for the 2014 Paris auto show in October. The U.S.-spec model is expected to bow in November at the 2014 Los Angeles auto show.
