2015 Volvo S60 and V60 Polestar Coming To The U.S.

The Polestar-tuned S60 sedan and V60 wagon will produce 350 hp.

We can’t wait for the new 2015 Volvo V60 station wagon to arrive on our shores, and we’re even more impatient now that Volvo has announced that hotted-up Polestar versions of the S60 sedan and V60 wagon will be coming to U.S. showrooms as well. Polestar is Volvo’s motorsports partner that has provided in-house upgrades for Volvo models like engine performance chips for added power.

The Volvo S60 and V60 Polestar, though, receive more extensive factory upgrades from the Swedish tuning company. Unlike previous Polestar creations like the Volvo C30 Polestar and the crazy, 508-hp Volvo S60 Polestar, these Polestar models will actually be offered for sale at U.S. dealerships from June 2014.

Compared with the standard Volvo S60 and V60 T6 AWD R-Design models, the turbocharged six-cylinder engine has a new twin-scroll turbo and intercooler, making for a gain of25 horsepower for a total of 350 hp, and 15 lb-ft of torque for a total of 369 lb-ft. This power is routed through a six-speed automatic transmission which drives all four wheels through a Haldex all-wheel-drive system. Volvo says this combination makes for a 0-62 mph run in a brisk 4.9 seconds for the Polestar twins.

The Volvo S60 and V60 Polestar also have a significantly upgraded chassis, with 80 percent stiffer springs than the S60 T6 R-Design, along with Ohlins shock absorbers and larger brakes with six-piston Brembo calipers. New 20-inch Polestar wheels look sharp, as do the various aerodynamic changes like a front splitter, a rear spoiler, and a rear diffuser that give the S60 and V60 an aggressive stance. Of course, both of these models will be offered in the traditional, searing Polestar Blue exterior color (pictured here), and the interior is upgraded with blue accents on the steering wheel and seats.

Volvo says the S60 and V60 Polestar will arrive in June 2014. We don’t know how many will be sold or what they will cost, but expect a somewhat significant premium over the $43,615 2014 Volvo S60 T6 AWD R-Design. 2015 Volvo V60 pricing has not yet been released; that model will go on sale early next year.

The Volvo S60 and V60 Polestar may be some of the last high-power Volvo performance models, since Volvo announced recently that it will replace its existing T5 and T6 engines with more advanced, efficient powertrains under the Drive-E engine family.
