According to pro rally and stunt driver Tanner Foust, you can run errands, or you can run errands. In a new YouTube video series promoting the 2015 Volkswagen GTI, Foust demonstrates the latter. As he knifes through suburban streets, dozens of GoPro cameras mounted to the car record every tire-screeching detail.
The interactive video series, titled “Turbocharge the Everyday,” shows Foust picking up friends, running to the store for milk, and visiting the car wash, all while hooning the 210-hp, turbo-four GTI within an inch of its life. “People think that you need to take your car to the track to have fun, but the Golf GTI is a blast to drive even when carrying out everyday tasks,” he said in a statement. Not that we’d recommend driving quite as aggressively as that on the street, of course.
As part of the promotion, which went live today, VW will offer a free GoPro HERO 3+ Black Edition camera and mount to anyone who buys or leases a 2015 Volkswagen GTI by June 30. As if there wasn’t already enough incentive to buy the iconic hot hatch that we’ve known and loved for years in its latest form, now you can film yourself enjoying every last motoring moment.
GoPro and Volkswagen are also teaming up with our colleagues at Motor Trend to make a GTI video series. The multi-segment series will begin on June 4, and it will feature pro drivers and automotive personalities experiencing and discussing the 2015 Volkswagen GTI.
Although we didn’t have a GoPro strapped to the roof, our experience behind the wheel of the 2015 Volkswagen GTI was like being reunited with an old friend. “The sensations of smoothness, refinement, precision, and accessible power that characterized those last two generations are even more finely concentrated in the 2015 GTI,” said deputy editor Joe Dematio. “The net effect is that the GTI is simply really easy to drive fast and to drive well.”
