An all-new version of the Subaru Outback wagon will debut later this month at the 2014 New York auto show. The 2015 Subaru Outback is expected to have strong similarities to the new Legacy sedan shown at the Chicago auto show.
Subaru hasn’t revealed much about the new Outback besides the above teaser image. Our spy photos show that the 2015 Outback will likely keep the same tall-wagon design as today’s fourth-generation car, with a roof that slopes downward toward the angled liftgate. Based on the engines offered in the 2015 Subaru Legacy, expect the new Outback to use a 2.5-liter flat-four engine revised for less internal friction and better fuel efficiency and an optional 3.6-liter flat-six engine, with a continuously variable transmission standard for either mill.
Based on the included teaser photo, the 2015 Subaru Outback will adopt the more angular, hexagonal grille seen on the Legacy, as well as its swept-back headlights with LED light piping.
Other changes for the 2015 Subaru Legacy include a smarter interior with more soft-touch materials, as well as the addition of technologies like Subaru’s EyeSight safety system. The sedan’s engine mounts and insulation were revised to keep the cabin quieter, and the suspension was retuned for more comfortable handling. Expect most of those upgrades to carry over to the 2015 Subaru Outback.
